Summary[]
The Restaurant Owners Union decide to hold an eating competition to attract people back to the village, which has finally been rebuilt. This backfires when Shui and the Bearcats, who can eat a lot, enter the contest. Afraid for their profits, the Union begs Boxxo’s help, so he dispenses fizzy cola, which, if drunk by the contestants, will fill them faster and limit how much they can eat. Munami acts as the host of the contest and reveals a gift box that contains a prize for the winner. Lammis, Karios, Gorth, Shirley, and Acowi also take part in the contest while Boxxo turns into a jukebox and provides background music. After an intense multi-round contest of fried meats, cola, and fruit crepes, as well as an unimpressive play that occurs in between rounds, Shui wins the contest, but finds the gift box empty. Munami explains that the empty gift box isn't the prize; the real prize is free access to Boxxo for 24 hours. Boxxo reluctantly agrees to this in return for providing the cola from earlier. Shui later tells the other hunters of her victory in winning the eating contest and now Boxxo is hers for the whole day, although Lammis's services is still needed as she's the only one who can carry Boxxo. Kerioyl and Filmina both still hope to use Boxxo, but Shui refuses to share him, as she already has plans for him. With Lammis carrying Boxxo, Shui takes them to the Origin stratum (to which Kerioyl declines going there, which confuses Boxxo) that's closest to the surface, which houses an orphanage and uses her free 24 hours to feed, wash, clothe, and entertain the children. Boxxo provides the kids with balloons and a shower of water for them to play in. When the kids forget to prepare the bath, Boxxo helps provide them with water. Shui explains the Origin stratum acts as a sort of test to allow access to lower stratums, meaning that it tends to collect people not strong enough to survive yet, like children whose parents died during the test. At night, bandits try to steal Boxxo’s items, but he takes their photos, then scares them away with mist, ice, and creepy music. The orphanage director, a retired hunter stronger than Kerioyl, later “takes care of ” the bandits to protect the children, scaring Boxxo a little.
